How is P/E calculated?

It is calculated by dividing market price of a stock by EPS (earnings per share). EPS in turn is calculated by dividing the net profit of the company by the number of shares outstanding.

Moving Average Convergence/Divergence (MACD)

MACD can be applied to daily, weekly or monthly charts. MACD represents the convergence and divergence of two moving averages. The standard setting for MACD is the difference between the 12 and 26-period EMA. However, any combination of moving averages can be used. The set of moving averages used in MACD can be tailored for each individual security. For weekly charts, a faster set of moving averages may be appropriate. For volatile stocks, slower moving averages may be needed to help smooth the data. Given that level of flexibility, each individual should adjust the MACD to suit his or her own trading style, objectives and risk tolerance.

Gardener bites snake in retaliation, kills reptile

A snake biting man is no news, but a man biting a snake to death made news in Orissa. A 25-year-old gardener, furious at being bitten by a snake, grabbed the reptile, tore it apart and chewed bits of its flesh just outside the capital of this coastal Indian state.
The incident took place Saturday in a government-managed park at Baramunda area. The snake had bitten Ramesh Kumar Jamda, the gardener of the park, when he was removing weeds, Oriya news paper Sambad reported on Sunday. A furious Jamda then caught hold of the snake and chewed parts of its body and swallowed the flesh.

Jamda then fell unconscious and was taken by other park employees to the local hospital. While the snake died on the spot, Jamda managed to survive after treatment, the paper said.

“I was very angry when the snake bit me on my finger. I chewed parts of its body to take revenge,” Jamda was quoted as saying.

Choosing a Stock using Technical Analysis

Top-Down Technical Analysis

For each segment (market, sector and stock), an investor would analyze long-term and short-term charts to find those that meet specific criteria. Analysis will first consider the market in general, perhaps the S&P 500. If the broader market were considered to be in bullish mode, analysis would proceed to a selection of sector charts. Those sectors that show the most promise would be singled out for individual stock analysis. Once the sector list is narrowed to 3-4 industry groups, individual stock selection can begin. With a selection of 10-20 stock charts from each industry, a selection of 3-4 of the most promising stocks in each group can be made. How many stocks or industry groups make the final cut will depend on the strictness of the criteria set forth. Under this scenario, we would be left with 9-12 stocks from which to choose. These stocks could even be broken down further to find the 3-4 of the strongest of the strong.
